Teachers' Day 2020- In the wake of COVID19

Teachers' Day this year has been extra special, longer celebrations and a lot of love pouring in from all sides. Thanks to COVID19, there is this gap that has unfortunately come up but this gap has made us all realize the importance of each other. When on one side we all have come so close to our family and have started enjoying time spent together much more than earlier, on the other hand we all have also understood how essential is our formal space too. Not that any work stopped, but, I, being a teacher, now really miss being with my students, and I could feel it from all the vibes I got and as my students keep on saying, they miss the school, the classroom, the teachers, the friends, the lunch break, the library, the play ground, the canteen, the dance room, the labs, the bus line and just everything.

These challenging times have made us all realize that we live in a world where we all are dependent on others around, dependent upon them to smile more, to share our lives and to feel loved, which is another basic requirement for healthy living.

This time, the wishes were unique, because people could actually recognise the hardwork we do. From very old students to the old ones to the current ones, everyone could remember us. They could quote instances from our classroom and could giggle about them. They could recall their mistakes and could express how much they want to be corrected again.

This year, it was not about giving your teachers the best gifts or the prettiest cards or the loveliest flowers. This year, it was all about gratitude in the most basic sense of the term, it was about regards and about care.

How magically we turned away from the materialistic things to the realistic, the valued and loved feelings that were shouting out loud and telling us that we are loved by our students, and that yes, we are doing a good job.

Thank you dear students, for making me realise all my efforts are worthwhile. May your achieve the best in your life, and may you continue to distinguish between the materialistic joys and the real ones. It will make life easier for you.
